Los Angeles, CA (April 9, 2010) – To celebrate the release of its widely anticipated Free Comic Book Day flip book featuring fan-favorite properties Mouse Guard and Fraggle Rock™, Archaia is excited to announce RED FRAGGLE will make a live appearance on Free Comic Book Day (May 1, 2010) at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles, Calif. to lead a short sing-along of favorite Fraggle Classics, take pictures with fans and sign comic books. RED and world-renowned puppeteer,KAREN PRELL appear courtesy of The Jim Henson Company, Lionsgate Home Entertainment, Archaia Entertainment and Meltdown Comics.

“This is such a nice treat for fans, and we couldn’t be happier to be able to work with the great folks at The Jim Henson Company, Lionsgate and Meltdown to make this possible,” said Archaia Marketing Manager Mel Caylo. “Karen and Red’s appearance at San Diego Comic-Con was highly anticipated and well attended, so we’re excited for them to come to Los Angeles and share their special magic in celebration of the release of our Free Comic Book Day issue.”

Archaia’s Mouse Guard/Fraggle Rock Free Comic Book Day flip book will feature a brand-new Fraggle Rock story by written by SAM HUMPHRIES (CBGB: The Comic Book) and drawn by Eisner Award-nominated artist JEREMY LOVE (Bayou). Humphries and Love will be on hand at Meltdown Comics with RED FRAGGLE to sign copies of the free comic for fans.

The pair join an already star-studded lineup between the covers of Archaia’s Free Comic Book Day flip book, which also features an original Mouse Guard story by David Petersen, and another never-before-seen Fraggle Rock story written by Nichol Ashworth and drawn by Jake Myler (Undertown).

In addition, Lionsgate Home Entertainment will display a collection of Fraggle Rock DVDs from the original series that started it all, including FRAGGLE ROCK: THE COMPLETE SERIES COLLECTION, which includes the entire award-winning series with over 47 hours of content on 20 discs, as well as FRAGGLE ROCK: THE ANIMATED SERIES, now available for the first time on DVD.

Free Comic Book Day is a single day—the first Saturday in May each year—when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. Fans at the Meltdown event will be able to sample some of the best talents and stories in the industry, free of charge!

Red Fraggle is one of the five main characters of the “Fraggle Rock” TV show, an award-winning television series launched by The Jim Henson Company in 1983 about an imaginary, colorful and fun world comprised of creatures called Fraggles, Doozers and Gorgs. The show ran for four seasons and became an international sensation. This global fan-favorite brand is as popular today as it was when it premiered more than 25 years ago with a robust consumer products plan featuring apparel, plush toys and even designer jewelry.

Whitney Cummings. I’m not sure if you saw her on the Joan Rivers roast but she completely dominated. She’s got such a great stage presence with really punchy jokes to back it up. Recently she starred in a pilot Produced by Ben Stiller, Directed by David Wain, and co-starring John Goodman.

Duncan Trussell. Duncan just recently wrapped up writing for NICK SWARDSONS sketch show on Comedy Central and has been progressively been becoming my favorite comic to see. One of the smartest and funniest guys around.

Eric Appel. Eric has been consistently pumping out amazing sketches since starting up on the Andy Milonakis Show back in 2005. Recently, he’s written on Crank Yankers, Human Giant and has been responsible for some of my favorite videos on FUNNY OR DIE, where he is a staffed Writer/Producer/Director. On top of that you can see him perform every sunday with Community’s Donald Glover at the UCB Theatres SHITTY JOBS.

K.P. Anderson. K.P. has been the Executive Producer and Head Writer of THE SOUP w/ Joel McHale for the past 5 years. Having been able to work side by side with him has been a delight. He regularly opens up for Joel McHale all across the country. Come see his rare L.A. appearance.

Brent Weinbach. Ask any comic that has performed with Brent and they will tell you ONLY good things. One of the more quoted and referenced comedians within the comedy community. I often find myself trying to describe his bits to friends and am always falling short of being able to. It truly is only something that you have to experience live.

Plus Special Guest: STEVE AGEE. Steve, a regular cast member on the Sarah Silverman Program is a wreck. One of the funniest hypochondriacs you will ever come across. Steve will swing by to talk about why he might just be about to die or almost just did.

This is a show full of headliners and I couldn’t be more happy to show them to everybody who comes. This is handpicked comedy.

Angel City Derby Girls and Meltdown Comics present:
EAT YOUR ART OUT III

Angel City Derby Girls, Los Angeles’ only flat track roller derby league, is thrilled to present Eat Your Art Out III at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood, Ca.

Eat Your Art Out is an annual fund raiser for the grassroots roller derby league. Local, National, and International artists donate to the silent auction each year, notable artists from years past include: Jim Mahfood aka Food One, Kofie, Dave Williams, and Ghostshrimp to name a few.

Angel City Derby Girls are members of the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby League (WFTDA). They competed nationally last year in Denver, Co at the 2009 Western Regional tournament.

This fundraiser kicks off our season every year and the proceed go towards uniforms, practice space fees and travel.

This is a one night only event! Come out, have a beverage with us, and go home with a reasonably priced piece art from your favorite artist!

Howdy, first-time blogger Jacob Strick here! I have the honor – as a long-time fan of both Meltdown and Penny-Arcade – to promote the upcoming Penny-Arcade book tour which is touching down at Meltdown in just over two weeks. For those who have been following this webcomic over the last 11-1/2 years, it is remarkable to see how far writer Jerry Holkins and artist Mike Krahulik have expanded the “Penny-Arcade” brand to their own major gaming expo (PAX), an international charity (Child’s Play), to say nothing of their games, clothing, and figurines. But it is easy to get caught up in the ascent of the Penny which is Arcade without really getting at the heart of the thing, which is to say the webcomic that has charmed and enlightened gamers and non-gamers alike for over a decade. So how to make sense of all this?

Enter “The Splendid Magic of Penny Arcade: The 11 1/2 Anniversary Edition,” a freshly minted volume published by Del Rey (an imprint of Random House). At more than 170 pages, this veritable tome will serve as the perfect entry point into the world of Penny-Arcade as well as a lovely companion piece to their previously collected works.
