The line up for the Next MELTDOWN:
PAUL SCHEER, JEN KIRKMAN, NATASHA LEGGERO, STEVE AGEE, DAN MINTZ, MATT DWYER, and JOHN VARGAS.

THE LINE UP FOR JUNE 18th:

PAUL SCHEER: A UCB alum, a Human Giant member, a hilarious comedian in many different forms. Who know’s what he’ll do? But you can be sure that it’ll be amazing.

JEN KIRKMAN: She has an album out on AST RECORDS, a regular on CHELSEA LATELY as well as the CHELSEA COMEDY TOURS, and an amazing writer. I’ve been watching her for years and have loved what she has progress to as a comic.

DAN MINTZ: With a Comedy Central Presents under his belt he’s become one of the most sought after comedy writers. His credits include: Saturday Night Live, IMPORTANT THINGS w/ Demetri Martin, Lucky Louie, The Andy Milonakis Show, Crank Yankers and much more. See him and you won’t regret it.

STEVE AGEE: He’s back from the south, let’s see what he’s got for us!

NATASHA LEGGERO: One of my favorites to watch. She’s appeared on RENO 911, Chelsea Lately, the Sarah Silverman Program, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Ugly Americans and FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS.

MATT DWYER: A legend of depression. An amazing improviser, writer and stand up comedian.

JOHN VARGAS: John is one of the smartest most intimidating comics I know. With his hit show at the Fake Gallery he’s honed a commanding presence on stage. Be challenged and laugh at the comedy of John Vargas.

And as always, FOOD TRUCK, BEER, GUEST DROP INS (Last month we had Aziz Ansari and Joe Mande do amazing sets.)

So…c’mon by.

TODAY! ALL FANBOY STAND-UP COMEDY Friday, June 4th, 8PM @MeltdownComics

Posted By G-DL on June 4, 2010

Featuring Ron Lynch, Tim Powers, Paul Goebel, Tom Franck, Marly Halpern Graser and SAX Carr.

June 4th, 8PM and the first Friday of every month.

$4 covers admission and cane sugar soda bar

Since December, 2007 ”Comics and Comics” has been entertaining crowds at Meltdown Comics and Collectibles in Hollywood with the nerdiest, geekiest stand-up comedy imaginable.  While not the first or the only stand-up show performed in a comic book shop, “Comics and Comics” is unique in that the material presented within the show covers topics of interest to people who would be patronizing such a store to begin with: comic books, movies, videogames, role-playing, action figures, etc. The show was created by stand-up veteran Tom Franck who books comedians who are not only the finest working today, but who have the geek street cred appropriate for the show.   Franck himself can claim the ultimate nerd comedian status as an appearance in Green Lantern 143 labeled him as the top comedian in the DC universe.

Due to the high volume of comedians requesting to perform on “Comics and Comics” since its launch, another version of the show, “Crisis On Infinite Comics and Comics,” was started several months after the regular show. While the normal “Comics and Comics” shows feature about six comedians, “Crisis” shows have lineups of 15-20 comics. This secondary venue allows comedians appropriate for the theme of the show to be recognized and booked much sooner than if the “Crisis” didn’t exist.
Each “Comics and Comics” show begins with a trivia contest to warm up the crowd.  Because of the geek erudition of the crowd, seldom is the audience stumped no matter how ridiculously difficult the questions become.

Audience members of “Comics and Comics” are not only treated to an evening of top-notch stand-up comedy, but can also quench their thirst with a stunning variety of exotic cane-sugar sodas including: Faygo, Boylan’s and Mexican Coke at the open bar.
“Comics and Comics” was featured on a segment on NPR’s “Marketplace” and, in the summer of 2009, was performed on the exhibition hall of the San Diego Comic-Con.

Adventurous Cartoonists & Far-Out Comics (w/ live appearances by Jaime Hernandez, Johnny Ryan & others!) The Cinefamily

Posted By G-DL on May 28, 2010

Cinefamily compatriot Family Books brings you a jam-packed afternoon of savory comic book history with an adventurous bent! In celebration of his new comic anthology Art in Time: Unknown Comic Books Adventures, 1940-1980, art director/editor Dan Nadel (leader of Picturebox, one of NYC’s coolest publishing imprints) will present an afternoon of book signings and conversations with notable cartoonists about the impact of adventure comics on popular culture. First, Dan will begin with an overview of adventure comics — from crime to cavemen, and back again! Next up, “Angry Youth”/”Prison Pit” author (and Cinefamily cover artist) Johnny Ryan interviews Lawrence Hubbard, co-creator of the raw ‘n riotous comic series “Real Deal”, set against the backdrop of a crime-ridden South Central. Later, join underground greats Sharon Rudahl, John Thompson and Barbara (Willy) Mendes in a panel discussion on their work, and on the milieu of 1960s subversive comics! Wrapping up the show is “Love And Rockets” co-creator Jaime Hernandez presenting a screening of the 1949 Joseph L. Mankiewicz classic A Letter To Three Wives, followed by a discussion with Jaime on the film, moderated by cartoonist Sammy Harkham. This historic event is a must for any serious comic fan — be sure to get your tickets early!
